This is what the former star Indian batsman is saying after becoming Bangladesh batting coach

Sabyasachi Bagchi: The most consistent player in the history of India’s domestic cricket Wasim Jaffer has joined Bangladesh cricket team as their batting consultant for their tour of Sri Lanka. He has played a record number of 146 matches and total 251 first class matches. In Ranji Trophy he has scored the most 11,000 runs and in first class cricket he has total runs of 19,079. After joining as the batting consultant of Bangladesh’s High Performance Unit, now the board has appointed him as the batting coach of the side for Sri Lanka tour.

Bangladesh cricket team’s former batting coach Neil McKenzie won’t be with the team as he will be on holidays and that’s why Jaffer will travel as their batting coach. In the recent Dhaka Premier League (DPL) there was a speculation that Jaffer may become the new head coach of Bangladesh Cricket Team as he was playing for Abahani Club during the tournament. In his mentorship Soumya Sarkar played brilliantly in DPL. While signing for HP it was said to him that if the board wants he will have to work with U19 team or the senior men’s team as well.

Right now his with the team at Dhaka’s conditioning camp. He talked with www.xtratime.in from there via what’s app call. In the limited overs cricket Bangladesh has been doing well in last few years, but they have failed to deliver in test arena. On being asked whether the team would bounce back under his guidance, Jaffer said,” This team has quite some fire power. In the limited overs cricket they are very much powerful and the whole world knows it. The recently concluded World Cup speaks for them. But Test arena is a different format all together. If you want to get success here you will have to keep patience as well beside technique. In tough situations you have to perform day after day. You can only get success in this format that way. A coach can’t change everything in just one day and I keep myself in that category as well. I have worked hard throughout my career and will do the same during my coaching.”

In last season winning back to back Ranji Trophy for Vidarbha Jaffer had taken retirement from cricket and has started his new journey as a coach. But he has a lot of obstacles on his way as well. If a team don’t perform well then the first slaughter comes on the coach. Though he doesn’t care much about it.” If you can’t give success then you have to leave the chair. It’s the rule of the world. So I am not thinking about saving my job and just want to enjoy it. If I can keep my basics right then the success will come automatically. The only difference is I can’t go to the middle for batting and will have to keep faith on the boys,” said Jaffer.

In his career no controversy has ever touched him. But India’s heartbreaking semifinal loss against New Zealand Jaffer blasted at the team management in a tweet.”In the limited overs cricket it’s time to make Rohit Sharma the captain of the team. I want to see him as captain in 2023 World Cup.” After being asked about the tweet he replied,” Not as a Mumbaikar but as an Indian I want him the captain of India. Whatever I have written is true. You can see Rohit’s stat as captain and you will get the answer.”
