Internet Desk: Legendary Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag today said the nation’s capital will give birth to many more star cricketers and the other gates of the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium would be named after those future stars.
Sehwag himself inaugurated a gate at the Feroz Shah Kotla which is named after him. According to the devastating batsman he felt privileged after knowing that a gate would be named after him where he started his journey as a cricketer.”It’s an honour to have a gate named after me at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium. I remember when I started off I used to daily cross this gate and now it has my name,” Sehwag told reporters.
The former captain of the Delhi Ranji team thanked the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) too,”There will be many more cricketers from this state who will have stands, gates, pavilions named after them but I am glad that I am the first one. I feel very fortunate and would like to thank the DDCA for this honour.”
The head of the DDCA Mr. Madan Lal too praised Sehwag for his valuable contribution to Indian cricket.
“Sehwag changed the way the game was played in India. Earlier we used to score 240-250 runs in a day, but after he came 350-360 became possible. He was a major reason why India won so many matches,” he said.
