Kolkata: The Hero I-League 2017/18 is knocking the door as it is likely to begin from November 25. Ahead of the start of the season, both the Kolkata giants are practicing hard to get in shape. East Bengal’s defencive line will be highly depending on some Punjab boys this season, beside veteran defender Gurwinder Singh, coach Khalid Jamil will be relying on the young bloods like Mehtab Singh and Deepak Kumar. Both the young players always take advice from their senior Gurwinder and he is just like a mentor to them.

Gurwinder had fought many battles for the side, but Mehtab and Deepak are quite new in the Red & Gold Brigade. Mehtab was the captain of East Bengal U-19 team; he was a part of U-23 squad too. He played a few matches for the senior side during the Calcutta Football League too. He played at the right-back during their warm-up matches against the Indian Super League clubs.

On the other hand Deepak Kumar too is in the good books of Khalid Jamil. He was a part of the team in last three warm-up games. As Nikhil Poojari is injured, the East Bengal gaffer is using these two footballers at a time in that place. Beside Gurwinder, Khalid is looking to keep these two young lads ready for the tournament.

Both the young defenders from Punjab are looking forward to cement their place in the Red & Gold Brigade. They both are eyeing to give the much awaited I-League trophy to the club.
