XtraTime Web Desk: We all know that on fast tracks, New Zealand’s fiery pacers bowl quick deliveries which put world’s batsmen in trouble. Last Monday, the 30 year old medium pacer wore a helmet as a fire fighter to save the people at his home town which was a historic moment as he became the first cricketer to do so.
Not only a cricketer, Rance is also a Fire Brigade station officer at Greytown.
Speaking exclusively with the Asian Age over his mobile from New Zealand on Tuesday, Seth Rance said, “I’m not too sure of any other fireman and also international cricket player. If I am the first I am honoured. I enjoy helping people in need and helping our community when needed”.
“I have been a fire fighter since the age of 16. I am an officer in the Greytown brigade. We attended a fire yesterday in the local hotel. As first on scene we controlled the blaze with help of 7 other fire trucks”.
Rance, who is married and the father of two children, enjoys playing cricket more than being a fire fighter.
“I enjoy being a cricket player more but also enjoy being a fire fighter. They both have challenges, especially working under pressure”, he further added.
Rance has taken part in 2 ODIs and 4 T20Is for his nation. He last played an international match in a T20 game against Pakistan at Auckland earlier this year.
