Kolkata: The Haitian midfielder Wedson Anselme has suddenly turned out to be the heart-throb of the millions of East Bengal fans across the globe. His performances are getting better and better since the DSK Shivajians game at the Balewadi Sports Complex. His ineffable hat-trick against Minerva earned him his first Hero of the Match at Ludhiana. Today, at Barasat, he showed his glimpses of brilliance again to make a match-winning contribution against Chennai City FC.

The derby fever has already started as East Bengal’s next destination will be Siliguri to play against the arch-rival Mohun Bagan on February 12. The Haitian duel between Wedson Anselme and Sony Norde has already started to excite the fans. Though Wedson said, “Who will win if I score? East Bengal? Who will win if Sony scores? Mohun Bagan? Why are these questions coming then! It’s not about me or Sony, it will be between the two teams.”

Wedson seemed in no pressure to play the Kolkata derby as he claimed, “I have played so many derbies in my career. I know the importance of this game. It’s nothing new. Another important game for the two good teams.”

The combination between him and Willis Plaza has been becoming a serious menace for all the teams. The understanding has now become more telepathic between the two. Wedson said, “It’s not a magic. We are training for a month now and this is the result of it. It’s a teamwork.”

The midfielder has already scored five goals and is running with Willis Plaza to be the highest goal scorer for East Bengal. But Wedson denied any personal target as he said, “My intention is not to become the highest goal scorer. My target is to help my team to win games as well as the title.”

Coach Trevor Morgan too seemed happy with the magnificent winning streak of his team, as he said, “I am happy that the team is in a great winning rhythm ahead of the derby. It’s a big positive. The team is improving every day and my boys will try their best to continue the winning streak in the upcoming games as well.”

East Bengal is now sitting pretty on the top of the points table with 19 points and a healthy goal difference of 7 games.
