XtraTime Web Desk: “Kohli Crescent”, “Tendulkar Drive”, “Dev Terrace”. One must be wondering what these names stand for. Well these are names of streets in a suburb of Melbourne. A new housing estate being developed on Rockbank suburb of Melbourne will have streets named after famous cricketers around the world. With an eye to lure Indian buyers residing in Melbourne, the developers have thought of this unique idea to name the streets of the estate after Indian cricket legends like Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar and Kapil Dev.

The estate has also named streets after other international cricketers such as “Waugh Street”, “Miandad Street”, “Ambrose Street”, “Sobers Drive”, “Kallis Way”, “Hadlee Street” and “Akram Way”.

The Rockbank suburb, which falls under Melton Council, has been a popular suburb among home buyers from the Indian community. Street names are usually submitted by developers and approved by the city council if they meet Office of Geographic Names guidelines.
This is not the first time that streets are being named after the Indian cricketers outside India. A place called Khandallah in Wellington, New Zealand has street names named after Sunil Gavaskar (Gavaskar Place) and Kapil Dev (Kapil Grove). Streets named after the two legends of Indian cricket stand next to each other. The place is a 15 minute drive from the Wellington City Centre and stand 50 meters apart.

So, an Indian cricket fan travelling to Melbourne next time must surely pay a visit to the Rockbank suburb to witness the unique street names after cricketers.
