Internet Desk: India gets Silver Medal as PV Sindhu goes down fighting to World No. 1 Carolina Marin 21-19, 12-21, 15-21 in the final. PV Sindhu won a thrilling first game against Carolina Marin 21-19 but the Spanish World No.1 roared back to win the second game 21-12 and continued the rush in the third set 21-15.

Sindhu won the opening game against Carolina Marin 21-19 after trailing 6-11 to stage a superb comeback. However, Marin the world champion was too good for the Indian badminton ace and breezed through the second game 21-12 to level the match at 1-1.

The momentum and confidence was on Sindhu’s side but Marin showed why she is the world champion when she outplayed her opponent in the second set. The Spanish girl opened up a five-point lead early in the contest when she led Sindhu 6-1. The world champion was quickly off the blocks and she led Sindhu 11-2 at the break.

Sindhu, playing the match of her live and vying to become only the second individual gold-medallist in India’s Olympic history to join Abhinav Bindra’s feat in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, gave a tough fight to the Spaniard but came out second best against the left-hander.

Despite her loss, Sindhu picked up the silver medal, becoming the only Indian woman to win a silver medal at the Olympic Games and she is also the first woman from Badminton contingent to win the silver.

During the match, sports personalities and celebrities from all round the country kept on supporting and cheering Sindhu through their twitter account. Even, R.Ashwin and C. Pujara also tweeted to support her during the match as the start of Day 2 between India and West Indies was delayed due to rain and their eyes were on the T.V, supporting the silver girl of India.
