XtraTime Web Desk: The decision on Indian cricket team’s star pacer Mohammed Shami’s participation in the upcoming Indian Premier League season 11 will be taken after BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit files its report after the completion of the investigation on whether Shami was a part of a match fixing or not. Earlier his wife Hasin Jahan alleged that Shami had taken money from a Pakistani lady named Alishba which was given by an England based businessman, Mohammad Bhai.
“The Anti-Corruption Unit is investigating the matter and will file a report. We will wait for it before taking a call on Shami’s participation,” IPL governing council member Sourav Ganguly said.
Supreme Court appointed BCCI’s Committee of Administrators chief Vinod Rai asked the board’s anti-corruption cell to investigate this matter ASAP.
“Since ACU chief Neeraj Kumar is investigating and has been given a seven-day time frame, any decision will be taken after he submits his report. The final decision will be taken by the CoA,” acting president Khanna told the on the sidelines of the IPL Governing Council meeting.
Delhi Daredevils who picked Shami via (RTM) in this year’s auction is still hopeful that Shami will get a clean sheet and will be allowed to play the tournament.
“We are hoping that Shami is cleared and will be allowed to play in the league,” DD CEO Hemant Dua said. “However, we will have to wait for the BCCI probe to conclude. The BCCI has assured us that the report will be out in a week’s time,” he added.
Eralier, Kolkata Police has started the investigation against him under several sections of the Indian Penal Code including 498A, which amounts to cruelty to a woman by her husband or his family. The other charges against Shami are under Section 307 – attempt to murder, Section 323 – punishment for voluntarily causing hurt, Section 376 – rape, Section 506 – criminal intimidation, Section 328 and 34. Among these charges few are non bail-able also.
