Kolkata: City giant Mohun Bagan has won their first trophy of the season after they beat Customs Club by a solitary goal to clinch the 37th Sikkim Governors Gold Cup Trophy at the Paljor Stadium in Sikkim today. Bagan’s star forward Ansumana Kromah scored the only goal for his side to take his side home.

These might give some relief to the Green and Maroon Brigade ahead of the I-League as they lost the Calcutta Football League by a whisker against their arch-rivals East Bengal due to goal difference. All the players too looked really pleased after winning the prestigious title for 10th time.

Kromah gave the all important lead in the 6th minute of the game to Mohun Bagan. Later their star forward Dipanda Dicka missed an easy chance in the 37th minute of the game. The remaining of the first half was 1-0. In the second-half Customs put immense pressure on Bagan defence but they somehow defended the goal. In the 68th minute of the game Gurjinder Kumar’s post missed the post by a whisker. Yuta Kinowaki came in place of Raynier Fernandez in the 76th minute of the game.

After winning the match against Customs, Mohun Bagan coach Shankarlal Chakraborty said,”We couldn’t celebrate during the Durga Puja as we lost the Calcutta Football League by a whisker. Now we will celebrate Diwali with this trophy.”

Kromah scored 4 goals in the tournament.
