XtraTime Web Desk: Ace Indian pacer Mohammed Shami’s wife Hasin Jahan has expressed her disappointment after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) cleared him from any match-fixing allegations and awarded him an annual contract as well overlooking his “character and public image”.

Hasin also took the example of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) who took a strong action against a cricketer named Mohammad Shahid. The BCB terminated the contract of him after he was accused for beating his pregnant wife back in 2017.

The BCCI on Thursday offered a Grade B contract to Shami, which is worth of Rs 3 crore, after Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) chief Neeraj Kumar cleared him from match-fixing allegations made by his wife.

Earlier the board withheld Shami’s contract earlier in March after Jahan accused him of adultery and domestic violence. During the investigation, Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Rajiv Shukla, also said that the board have nothing to say about Shami’s personal life.

Though the Kolkata Police is investigating multiple charges against the Indian pacer and four other members of his family, which also includes rape and murder attempt on Jahan. After listening about the decision, Hasin takes a dig at BCCI for giving the pacer a clean chit.

To her defense, Jahan said, “I am not surprised with the Indian cricket board’s decision of awarding the contract to my husband. But it is a fact that Neeraj Kumar, whom the CoA had directed to probe, has never meet me. I only met a few junior level officials, supposedly sent by him. We have no issues even if my husband is given a clean chit on fixing charges, though I had submitted all his conversation and text messages.”

“It is not going to make any difference if he starts playing again for the country, but what about his character? It is amusing that the BCCI has not considered his character and public image and said they were not concerned about his personal life,” Jahan was quoted as saying by Deccan Chronicle.

“We have no issues even if my husband is given a clean chit on fixing charges, though I had submitted all his conversation and text messages.

“If the Bangladesh Cricket Board took action against him [Shahid] and revoked his contract, why is Shami not being given the same treatment for the same offense,” she added.
