Sambaran resigns from selection committee .

Sambaran-BanerjeeCALCUTTA : Former national selector  and presently a selection committee member Sambaran Banerjee resigned from the Bengal selection committee owing to personal reasons . It comes at a time when the senior team is doing well having qualified for Ranji knockouts .  A day after former India cricketer Devang Gandhi was made the chairman of the senior selection committee, Sambaran  quit as a member of the panel. It is believed once a chairman of selection committee for Bengal , Sambaran felt humiliated and offended with the decision as he was expecting the role of chairman .

He conveyed his decision in an e-mail to joint secretary Avishek Dalmiya with a copy to CAB president Sourav Ganguly.

“We have got his resignation letter. The senior officials will meet and take a call,” Avishek said at the CAB on Thursday.
Sourav Ganguly did not read much into Sambaran’s resignation though , “One person has resigned… And the person who resigned earlier (read Raju Mukherjee) is now willing to come back. What can I say? It’s a personal decision. I have a policy and will stick to it,” he said.

Sambaran said if he gets proper respect, then only he can reconsider his decision. In his resignation letter Sambaran wrote he was resigning “due to unforeseen personal reasons.”

“I will request you to please relieve me of my duties and consider this as my formal resignation.

“I will always be available for service for Bengal cricket should you consider me for any critical role in future,” he wrote in his resignation letter.
