Xtra Time Web Desk: In a thrilling encounter, India emerged victorious over Lebanon in a penalty shootout, securing their spot in the final of SAFF Championships 2023 in Bengaluru on Saturday. Despite the absence of Coach Igor Stimac, who was serving a suspension, and the absence of Sandesh Jhingan, India displayed resilience and determination throughout the match.

The first half against Lebanon was challenging for India as they appeared disorganized from the beginning. Lebanon had several opportunities to score, with Nader Matar and Zein Farran both coming close. However, India's goalkeeper, Gurpreet Singh, showcased his shot-stopping abilities by denying Lebanon's skipper, Hassan Maatouk, from a brilliant curling free-kick.

India struggled to create clear chances in the first half, with Ashique and Chhangte's efforts from the flanks falling short. Despite Anirudh Thapa's accurate long pass finding Pritam Kotal inside Lebanon's box, Kotal's header went wide.

The second half saw both teams with opportunities to score, but it was in the last quarter of the match that India came out stronger after making a double change. Although they managed three corners, they were unable to convert them into goals.

In extra time, India continued to push for a winner. Sunil Chhetri and Udanta Singh had scoring opportunities, but were unable to find the back of the net. India's fitness level played a crucial role as the match progressed, with their players showing resilience while their Lebanese counterparts appeared fatigued.

After 120 minutes of evenly contested play, the match was decided by a penalty shootout. Chhetri, Gurpreet Singh, Anwar Ali, Naorem Mahesh, and Udanta Singh all played crucial roles in securing India's victory. Chhetri confidently converted the first penalty, and Gurpreet Singh made a stunning save to deny Lebanon's first penalty taker. Ultimately, Kuwait's Khalil Bader missed his penalty, sending India to the final.

In the final, India will face Kuwait once again, providing an opportunity to avenge their previous encounter where an unfortunate own goal denied them a historic victory. With their determination and resilience on display, India will be looking to seize the opportunity and claim the ultimate prize.
