Xtra Time Web Desk: In all likelihood Rohit Sharma is going to replace Virat Kohli as the captain of Indian T20 team. If multiple reports are to be believed than the Mumbaikar can be given the white ball captaincy as well, meaning he will also be made the captain of 50 over format. Virat Kohli, who announced he will relinquish the T20 captaincy after the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021, might have to make way for Rohit as far as leadership in white ball format is concerned. The performance of the Indian team in the first two matches of the ongoing tournament may influence the board officials and selectors to see a change of guard.

It will be interesting if Rohit is named the captain of the T20 series against New Zealand immediately after the T20 World Cup. It is expected that most of the senior cricketers will be rested for the T20 series against BlackCaps as they have been on the road since April - the IPL, followed by the WTC final, Test series in England, then again, the IPL and now the Twenty20 World Cup. If Rohit is rested along with seniors like Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah then KL Rahul will lead the Indian team against New Zealand in the T20 series.

The selectors will meet in next couple of days to decide on the captain and the squad for the T20 series against New Zealand. Selection committee chairman Chetan Sharma and Abey Kuruvilla - are in Dubai right now.

The players selected for the tour are likely to be asked to report by November 10, to undergo a five-day quarantine before a couple of days of practice.

The T20 series against BlackCaps will start from November 17 with the first match being held at Jaipur followed by matches on November 19 (Ranchi) and November 21 (Kolkata). The two Tests are from November 25-29 (Kanpur) and December 3-7 (Mumbai).
