Rio 2016: Narsingh’s Rio journey under cloud after WADA appeal to CAS

Internet Desk: World Anti-Doping Agency has appealed to Court of Arbitration for Sports(CAS) against the verdict given by National Anti-Doping Agency on wrestler Narsingh Yadav. Following this situation Olympic journey of Narsingh is under cloud.

The WADA lodged the appeal on 13th August. But Wrestling Federation of India only came to know of it on Tuesday.

“WADA has appealed against the NADA clearance in CAS. Now the hearing us on and the IOC secretary general is there with NADA officials”, said Rakesh Gupta, the chef-de-mission of India at Rio.

Narsingh was found guilty of consuming banned steroid Methandienone. He failed the dope test of 25th June. He was chosen for this Olympic replacing two times Olympic Medalist Sushil Kumar.

However, in the NADA his got clean chit as he appealed that he was convicted following sabotage. The NADA verdict also resounded him in their verdict on 2nd August. In its verdict NADA declared that ther was no fault or negligence from the part if the victim. He was the victim of sabotage done by competitors.

However, challenging this verdict WADA appeared before the CAS. The hearing will be on 18th August. Narsingh has his first appearance in Rio on 19th, the day after the hearing will be on. So he has to wait until the last day of his Rio venture.

“Yes, WADA has appealed the verdict on Narsingh to CAS, which will hear the both parties on Thursday, 18th August”, said Brij Bhishhan Sharab Singh, the president of WFI.
