Internet Desk: Dipa Karmakar can be remembered like P T Usha, at least until the next Olympics in Tokyo. 32 years ago an Indian lady missed her track and field Olympic Medal by a whisker being forth.

History repeated at Rio as India’s first woman gymnast qualifying for Olympic came forth at the final of artistic gymnastic. Today Dipa missed the Bronze Medal by 0.15. It the hard luck of the Tripura born Bengali girl that all the renowned gymnasts today did not leave any chance to win their respective Medals.

Dipa came last but two to perform her vaults. After the Produnova vault she performed her body bent a little backward. That caused some deduction of marks. However, after her score was announced she became the second gymnast.

After that when the last gymnasts performed at first she came down to no.3 and from there at no.4. the last performer was the world champion Simone Biles of USA who won the Gold Medal.

USA’s Simone Biles won the gold medal with a score of 15.966 while the silver went to Russia’s Maria Paseka after her score of 15.253. Bronze was bagged by Switzerland’s Giulia Steingruber for her score of 15.216.

Karmakar’s final score of 15.066 gave her the fourth position in the final. Her first vault fetched her 14.866 points but her Produnova gave her 15.266. She was second after her two vaults but Russia and USA were the last to go and that pushed Karmakar out of the top three position.

However, the show Dipa Karmakar presented in her first Olympics is beyond imagination and expectation. Hope she will reach the 2020 Olympics to have her luck tested twice and make India proud.
