XtraTime Web Desk: The BCCI has officially announced Ramesh Powar as the new coach of the Indian women’s cricket team till the World T20 in November.
According to a BCCI release, Powar has been handed over full time duties till November 30, 2018.
After the exit of Tushar Arothe, Powar was named the interim coach last month and he was in-charge of a 12-day camp in Bengaluru.
Powar’s first assignment will be the team’s tour to Sri Lanka next month, followed by a bilateral series in the West Indies in October and then the ICC Women’s World T20 in November.
The Board has decided to continue with Powar as an interim coach for the next three months after the Supreme Court’s new verdict made it clear that no appointment of national coaches could be made without the approval of a Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC).
Though Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman were part of the CAC, formed by the BCCI a few years ago, there’s no clarity whether the same set of members would continue in the committee now. So, to avoid any controversy, the BCCI decided to halt the coaching selection process, despite short-listing six candidates in an interview session last week.
The CoA has also sought more clarifications on the execution of a new CAC.
