Pro Kabaddi: The story of Bengal’s latest sensation

Kolkata: This seasons Vivo Pro-Kabaddi league will be a 12 team tournament which is scheduled to commence from July 28. Kolkata side Bengal Warriors has retained two key players which include their star raider Jang Kun Lee. Kolkata will host the matches from September and the inauguration would be done by the chief minister Mamata Banerjee.

The new co-owner of Bengal Warriors is Akshay Kumar who after was in London to witness the finals of ICC Women’s World Cup. After returning to India he made the decision to become the new co-owner of this Bengal based team.

“Two main reasons to make Akshay Kumar the co-owner is a new glamour would be added to the team and secondly his fondness and dedication towards sports has impressed us all” said Sandip Tarkas the CEO of Bengal Warriors.

A lad from Bongaon who used to participate in local tournaments has been selected by the Kolkata side and will make his debut in the global Kabaddi league this season. Amaresh Mondal who took Kabaddi later, used to play Australian Rules football and then took this sport as per the advice of his coach. Amaresh who is an orphan has been brought up in the care of his grandparents.

“I practice and played in Australia together for 2 years. Australian Rules football and Kabaddi are almost similar as both are body contact games. Hence my coach instructed me to play Kabaddi” said Amaresh Mondal.

“I gave a selection for Pro-Kabaddi and I was selected after months of the selection procedure I was selected by the Bengal Warriors team. This is a great opportunity for me to perform well. The 2 months training has been good and we are aiming to become the champions” said the right corner raider.

“Our team is a balanced team and we hope to win it this time. The pre-season has been good. We improved our fitness a lot. Last season we lost due to injuries of key players, which is unlikely to happen in this season” said captain of Bengal Warriors Surjeet Singh.
