Premier Badminton League to be held in January 2016 as SC quashes High Court’s stay .

Premier-Badminton-League-01New Delhi , December 16 : With the Supreme Court squashing the High Court’s stay order on the Premier Badminton League, Badminton Association of India (BAI) applauded the decision, saying it will be a big assurance to all the stakeholders involved in the league.

“Some vested interests were against the spirit of the game and they have been trying to create hurdles. The recent issue raised by them was totally baseless,” said BAI President & PBL Chairman Dr. Akhilesh Das Gupta.

“The Badminton Association of India (BAI) didn’t even know of any such details. We are grateful to the honourable Supreme Court, who has always supported the right and in this case also, it has favoured us by quashing the stay order.

“The Premier Badminton League is now clear of all obstacles and the Supreme Court’s order is big assurance to all the stakeholders, including franchisees, players, coaches and sponsors.”

The Meghalaya High Court had stayed the tournament based on a petition filed by Sobhagaya Media Private Limited who challenged the validity of the franchisee meet held in New Delhi on December 6.

The BAI soon sprang into action and approached the Supreme Court to seek immediate stay on the HC order and allow it to hold the tournament.

The PBL will now kick-start on 2nd January in Mumbai where the League will bring together India’s top badminton players along with international players on the same platform. The final will be hosted in Delhi on January 17.
