Xtra Time Web Desk: Olympic-bound Indian boxers Mary Kom and Lovlina Borgohain received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine at Command Hospital in Pune on Wednesday, May 12th, 2021. The on-going elite women national camp at the Army Sports Institute in Pune, which is slated to go on till July 31 and is conducted for the pugilists who have qualified for the Olympics is where the six-time world champion Mary Kom and two-time world championship bronze medallist Lovlina are currently training.

Alongside the duo, four members from the coaching and support staff team also received their first jab of the vaccine. Lovlina has been training here for a while now, while Mary Kom landed here on May 5th. Simranjeet Kaur will also train here after completing her post-illness isolation, while Pooja Rani will continue training at Bellary’s Inspire Institute of Sports. The boxers will have been put into three separate groups with 2 sparring partners each to ensure the minimal risk of infection. Strict precautions and measures are being taken to ensure that the boxers can prepare safely for the Olympics.
