Former India captain to play the tournament to keep himself ready for Champions Trophy

Internet Desk: Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is likely to lead Jharkhand in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy. The matches will take place at the Eden Gardens from February 25.

The 35-year-old right hand batsman, who relinquished the captaincy, so as to pave the way for Virat Kohli to lead the Indian team, will play the forthcoming tournament to prepare himself for the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy in England during June.

Although there is no official confirmation of Dhoni playing the tournament, but sources in the Jharkahand State Cricket Association says that the former Indian captain has agreed to play the tournament.

Saurabh Tiwary has been captaining Jharkhand for most of this season while pacer Varun Aaron led them during the 2015-2016 edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Jharkhand reached the quarter finals under Arun last season.

The Group D matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy will be played in Kolkata, with Jharkhand taking on Karnataka Karnataka in the first match on February 25.

Jharkhand will next face Chhattisgarh, Services, Saurashtra, Hyderabad and Jammu & Kashmir respectively.

The ongoing season has already been memorable for Jharkhand as they made it to the Ranji Trophy semi-finals for the first time.
