Internet Desk: An F1 All Stars team has lost 22-10 to a team of Champions League Legends ahead of this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix. The F1 team, made up of Fernando Alonso, Daniel Ricciardo, Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez and Jolyon Palmer, took on a legends team assembled by Heineken, F1’s new sponsor. The match took place on an artificial pitch placed on the start/finish line, just underneath Monza’s famous podium.

The legends team was made up of Dida, Christian Karembeu, Michael Salgado, David Trezeguet and Robert Pires. They were rarely troubled throughout the game, winning heavily in an amusing game which saw both teams trying to stay as competitive as possible without getting too physical.

Of some consolation to the F1 team is that every one of them got on the scoresheet during the game. Highlights of the match included a stunning save by Fernando Alonso, who also scored a stunning worldy from half-way, Sergio Perez missing an open goal, an own goal from Jolyon Palmer and some world class defending by Max Verstappen — though the latter is probably up for debate at tomorrow’s driver briefing.
