Mohammedan Sporting appoints Biswajit Bhattacharya as their new Coach

Kolkata: Former Indian captain and renowned coach Biswajit Bhattacharya has been handed  a contract by Kolkata giant Mohammedan Sporting for the new season and as per the club, the famous coach has agreed the terms to take the charge for the forthcoming season. Biswajit Bhattacharya has been a stalwart in football over the years and was the architect in East Bengal’s consecutive Hexa League triumph in the Calcutta Football League.  The Mohammedan Sporting officials have been playing a pro-active role this season in the team build up to regain the lost pride of the illustrious club.

Mohammedan Sporting official Belal Khan told www.xtratime.in , “Yes, we have finalized Biswajit Bhattacharya as our new coach for the upcoming season and we are excited to have him at our club. Appointing someone like Biswajit is a huge success in the team build up process and we are hopeful that Mohammedan will do well in this season.”

The Mohammedan official also said, “We are building a strong squad and having a coach like Biswajit will no doubt strengthen our chances in this season. Our first focus will be to win the Calcutta Football League and then we would be hoping that the AIFF would be allowing us to play the I-League as well on the basis of popularity in the possible new structure of Indian football.”

Alongside Biswajit, Mohammedan was interested in Shillong Lajong coach Thangboi Singto as well. Thangboi too was open for the Kolkata outfot, but in the end, it was Biswajit who had the upper hand. The Mohammedan officials have also finalized Bengal’s Santosh Trophy hero Sankar Roy in the goalkeeping slot. The officials have also signed eight players from Bengal’s Santosh Trophy winning squad including the heero of the final Manbir Singh. In the foreigners quota along with star forward Dipanda Dicka, they have already signed Nigerian midfielder John. The negotiations are going on Aizawl FC’s I-League winning Nigerian defender Kingsley as well. Star midfielder Lalkamal Bhowmick and Demson Devdas are too there in advanced talks alongside Mohun Bagan’s I-League winning captain Shilton Paul.
