Messi pips Ronaldo for La Liga player and forward of the year .

Messi-with-La-Liga-awardLionel Messi of Barcelona beat out Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid to win La Liga player of the year and striker of the year for the 2014-15 campaign. The Spanish league awards were presented Monday night at a gala, with the Argentine star picking up more hardware to add to his extensive list. Messi won both awards from 2009 to 2013, and Ronaldo won both last year.

Messi led Barcelona to the title last season scoring 43 goals and recording 18 assists. Ronaldo had 48 goals and 16 assists.

Earlier on Monday, Messi was named as one of three finalists for the Ballon d’Or alongside Catalan teammate Neymar and Ronaldo.

As for other awards, Barcelona’s Luis Enrique won top manager, Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos took home top defender, and Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez was top midfielder.
