Kolkata: A major chaos had happened just after the match between Bengaluru FC and East Bengal at the Kanteerava Stadium. Both the teams along with their support staff engaged in a brawl infront of the match commissioner.

Today www.xtratime.in spoke to I-League CEO Sunanda Dhar to know latest update of that controversy and Sunanda said,” The match commissioner was close by, he stated that Mehtab’s gesture was tempting for Roca and that motivated the incident to go worse. The match commissioner has given his report but we are not giving any punishment to Mehtab.”

What seemed to have happened there was that Mehtab Hossain, elated after the Red and Golds’ emphatic trouncing of the Blues by a 3-1 margin, ran towards the home fans and celebrated in a way that irked the BFC head coach Albert Roca. The two got into a scuffle and soon the entire teams, and some policemen, got involved. Thankfully the situation did not get too out of hands.

It seems the match commissioner Michael Andrews has put the blame squarely on Mehtab. In the report given to AIFF, he has been identified as the instigator.

The report will be forwarded to the AIFF Disciplinary Committee for further evaluation. As a result of this, Mehtab Hossain can be fined or even handed a suspension if found guilty of insitgating the crowd or provoking the opposition team.

Interestingly, after the match, even East Bengal head coach Trevor Morgan had criticised Mehtab for the incident, saying he “should not have done that.” Albert Roca had called the incident “shameful.”
