Internet Desk: Indian hopes came to an end in the Malaysian Open Super Series as PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal crashed out in the first round on Wednesday.

Saina Nehwal lost to the fourth seed Akane Yamaguchi by 21-19, 13-21, 15-21.

On Sunday, Saina lost to her compatriot PV Sindhu in the quarterfinals of the India Open Superseries at New Delhi.

Saina started well against Yamaguchi as she took an early lead of 13-10 in the first game. Though the world No. 2 Yamguchi narrowed the gap to a single point but Saina held her nerves to take the first game 21-19.

Yamaguchi showed why she is world No. 2 as the Japanese won the second game by 21-13 to level the match. Saina had a three-point advantage in the halfway stage but failed to take the advantage as she lost her momentum after the break.

After winning the second game Yamaguchi started the final game more aggressively and won the final game 15-21.

In another match Rio Olympics silver medalist PV Sindhu lost to world No. 13 Chen Yufei 21-18, 19-21, 17-21. This was only the second loss in 14 matches this year for the Olympic silver medallist. On Sunday, Sindhu won the India Open Super Series by defeating world No.1 and Rio Olympics gold medalist Carolina Marin in straight sets.

In the men’s division India’s Ajay Jayaram is through to the next round as he beat China’s Qian Bin 21-11, 21-8.
