XtraTime Web Desk: Following the resumption of Bundesliga, another top European league, La Liga is set for resumption on June 08. It comes as huge sigh of relief for football fans across the globe to see the return of the top league of the world. The decision comes after an announcement from Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.

The Spanish La Liga was suspended since March following the break of coronavirus pandemic. Spain recorded one of the most number of COVID-19 cases among the European countries along with Italy. However, the league will now be back next month after the country lifted certain restrictions in the lockdown with the curve flattening.


Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in an address to the nation confirmed that football will be among a host of activities which will resume in the country soon.

"Spain has done what it should and now new horizons are opening for everyone," he said. "The time has come to recover many of the daily activities. From June 8 La Liga will return," said Sanchez.

Earlier, La Liga president Javier Tebas had said that the authorities in Spain were looking to re-start the season from June 12. He tweeted in support of Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez's decision on Saturday and said the resumption of the league was made possible due to the good work put in by the players, clubs and coaches.

Barcelona is currently leading the La Liga table with 58 points, followed by arch rivals Real Madrid who are on 56 points from 27 games.
