Kolkata schools dominate in Nationals CBSC School Chess meet

Internet Desk: South Point High School and Lakshmipat Singhania Academy dominated the Boys and Girls Section of the CBSE Nationals in Varanasi today.

The South Point High School,dominated the Boys Under 14 Category when the team comprising of Aronyak Ghosh,Ritam Nag,Adiya Basu and Soumma Chakraborty won all their matches without much resistance.

However,in the Under 19 Category,they had to be contend with third position behind PSBBSS and Chettinad Vidyashram from Chennai,despite superlative performance by Mitrabha Guha.

In the Girls Section,Lakshmipat Singhania emerged as a surprise winner in the Under 11 Category ahead of Cambridge International School and SBOA School,Chennai.

In the Under 14 Section Lakshmipat Singhania finished runner up behind Adarsh Vidya Niketan,Nagercoil while Shri Sikshayatan School finished second in the Under 19 Category.

Altogether,192 Teams participated in the 4 day event.

In another tournament, National Under 17 Bronze medallist Kaustav Kundu and National Under 13 Runner Up Kaustav Chatterjee share lead with 5 points after 5 rounds of 2nd 64 Squares Fide Rated Chess Tournament being played in Kalighat Milan Sangha today.

Fifth seed Kaustav Chatterjee outplayed Arpan Das with Black pieces while Kaustav Chatterjee played a flawless technical game against former State Champion Laltu Chatterjee to join his namesake in the lead.

Altogether 175 players from 5 States are participating in the 9 Round event which is being held at Kalighat Milan Sangha Club.
