Kolkata: The speculations were there from the moment he lifted the title in the last season. I-League winning Aizawl FC Head Coach Khalid Jamil became the “most wanted” coach in Indian football after his miraculous success with Aizawl FC. Both the Kolkata Giants didn’t waste any time to offer the former India international. The East Bengal officials met Khalid during the AIFF Annual Awards as well on yesterday, which was earlier confirmed by www.xtratime.in . In the meeting, Khalid got impressed with the proposal and as XtraTime understands, he will likely to join the Red & Gold brigade this season. Today, Khalid told www.xtratime.in , “I’m so glad and honoured to see the cordial approach of the East Bengal officials. They interacted with me for quite a few times and negotiations are now at the final stage.”
The I-League winning coach also confessed, “Well, I haven’t signed the contract as yet as I mentioned. But I’m likely to join East Bengal. Between the two Kolkata giants, East Bengal have more chances to appoint me as their new coach.” The Bagan officials too were in talks with him but as per his words, it is almost clear that he has made up his mind that the Red and Gold Brigade is going to be his next destination.
Though, East Bengal official Debabrata Sarkar denied to ‘confirm’ the news through their club magazine, Khalid’s words are enough to prove that the negotiations are in the final stage. On the other hand, Mohun Bagan physio Djair Miranda Garcia has reportedly received an offer of five lakh rupees from East Bengal for the new season.
