Katsumi steals the show during his first training session with East Bengal

Kolkata: Japanese Katsumi Yusa hogged the limelight during East Bengal training session today at the club ground. Katsumi, who donned Mohun Bagan jersey last season, has decided to switch over to East Bengal.  The attacking midfielder was the star attraction today at East Bengal club as journalists and photographers from his native Japan was also seen covering his practice. The 29 year old was in a jovial mood during his first training session under Coach Khalid Jamil.

Later talking to the reporters after the practice session, Katsumi said, “I feel good to join East Bengal. This is a new season for me in this club. I will try and give my best for the team. I want to win trophy in this club.”

Katsumi had a successful stint with the Mariners, winning both I league and Federation Cup. According to the former Mohun Bagan captain,

“Mohun Bagan will always have a special place in my heart. But as you know I am a professional footballer and have to change my decision. I love the Mohun Bagan supporters.”

On being reminded that East Bengak has never won an I League, the Japanese medio said, “East Bengal has not won the I League. But I cannot myself guarantee winning the I League. The entire team should work together towards that goal.”

Katsumi will be handed over the club jersey tomorrow. The Japanese footballer has no preference with the jersey number he will be wearing this season. He heaped loads of praises on Coach Khalid Jamil.

“Khalid Jamil is a good and experienced coach. He won the I League last season. I just trained under him today. I need to understand his approach towards the game,” said Katsumi about Khalid Jamil.

The first derby in the I League this season will see two Japanese clashing against each other. While Katsumi will don the Red and Gold jersey, his native Yuta Kinowaki will be in Green and Maroon jersey. On being asked about the duel, Katsumi said, “He (Kinowaki) is a good friend of mine and also a good player. I will enjoy playing against him.”

Apart from Katsumi, all the other four foreigners also trained at the club ground. The club officials had recently signed Baju as the fifth foreigner. Club officials are in talks with Brazilian defender Eduardo Ferreira as the sixth and final foreigner. Meanwhile , Carlysle Mitchell was seen at the club tent to take his release orders.
