CHENNAI : A thumping win for Chennaiyin FC almost sealed them a spot in the semis . It also ended Mumbai City FC’s hopes of making it to the play offs  at the Jawaharlal Neheru Stadium here in Chennai.

Chennaiyin have scored 8 goals in their last two matches. Mendoza and Jeje have been involved in seven of them. On the other side Mumbai have conceded 11 goals in their last five matches.John Stiven Mendoza opened the scoring for the home side from a lovely through pass from  Zakeer Mundampara .The Columbian made no mistake and slotted the ball past Subrata Paul into the bottom left corner. Having taken the lead , Chennaiyin slowly eased into the game.Jeje scored the second goal for the hosts .Thoi  Singh knocked the ball forward and it looked like the ball was heading straight to the keeper but the ball stopped as a large amount of water came into play.Jeje tapped  it past the keeper.

Chennaiyin Fc have triples their lead just before the half time through Captain Bernard Mendy.Thoi Singh’s ball found Bernard Mendy and the skipper delightfully chipped the ball over Subrata Paul. The home team went into the break with a 3 goal lead.Mumbai FC coach Anelka  made all the 3 changes to force for turn around , as they started to put more pressure on Chennaiyin FC defence. Sunil Chhetri missed  a great chance to score through a  header but the ball fell  to Sony Norde , whose  shot went  straight to the keeper. At the 83rd minute  Elano dribbled  past two man and passed the ball to jeje who knocked it to Pelissari but the midfilder failed to keep it on target.

For Mumbai Fc Sony Norde made some good run but could not capitalize due to some poor finishing. It could have been more humiliating for Mumbai FC  had Mendoza and Jeje been more clinical. A fascinating  win for Chennaiyin FC ended Mumbai’s hope for a semifinal berth. The super Machans are now in the fourth spot which keeps their semifinal hopes alive.
