Image Source: ISL[/caption] Internet Desk: Mumbai City FC and Delhi Dynamos FC played out a 0-0 draw in their last league stage game of Hero Indian Super League 2016 in front of more than 7,000 fans at the Mumbai Football Arena on Saturday. The draw saw Mumbai cement top spot with 23 points from 14 games, while Delhi are currently second 21 points from 14 games and will now have to wait for the result of the game between Kerala Blasters FC and NorthEast United FC to find out in which position they will qualify for the semis. It was a slow start to the game with the first shot on goal coming in the 22nd minute courtesy of Mumbai’s marquee player Diego Forlan. A good crossfield pass by Cafu found the Uruguayan striker on the left with time and space to attack. His shot though was punched away by Toni Doblas from the danger area. Cafu then cut in from the right flank before having a go at goal himself soon after but his shot flew over the crossbar. Delhi started to see more of the ball and grow into the game as the match approached the half hour mark but couldn’t create any clear-cut chances on goal. Mumbai’s Krisztian Vadocz tried his luck from distance in the 36th minute but the Hungarian dragged his effort wide of goal. Bruno Pelissari tried to curl one in at the near post from a direct free-kick six minutes before half-time but the Brazilian’s attempt for the Lions went over the crossbar. Sehnaj Singh had the last chance of the half in stoppage-time. His shot, however, was tipped over the crossbar by Doblas as both teams headed into the tunnel after a goalless half. Pelissari had Delhi’s first attempt of the second half in the 53rd minute but his shot was blocked by Mumbai’s defence and went behind for a corner. Forlan took a shot with his weaker left-foot from distance 12 minutes later to no avail as it went over the crossbar for a Mumbai corner. The hosts came closest to taking the lead in the 72nd minute when Cafu unleashed a shot from range that rattled the crossbar. Delhi went straight up the other end seconds later and hit the woodwork themselves as Pelissari’s shot struck the post. Sony Norde came off the bench and found himself in a good position with the ball at his feet inside the box after a scuffed shot by Forlan found its way to the Haitian winger. Norde though couldn’t steady himself and make a proper connection with the ball, allowing Delhi to clear the danger. Mumbai had a glorious chance of winning the game seven minutes from full-time after a well-worked free-kick by Forlan made its way to Gerson Vieira, who was inside the six-yard box with the goal at his mercy. Delhi’s defence, however, did just about enough to thwart the threat. Udanta Singh had the last chance of the game in the final minute of normal time after cutting in from the right and firing a low left-footed effort. His shot though was wide of the target as the penultimate league stage match of Hero ISL 2016 ended goalless.
