Mumbai head into the game as the only team to still have a perfect record in the league having beaten both FC Pune City and NorthEast United FC by a 1-0 score-line. ATK are also unbeaten this season after a 2-2 draw against reigning champions Chennaiyin FC and a 1-0 win against Kerala Blasters FC made it four points from two games for Jose Molina’s men. Head to head: Matches between these two teams are generally exciting encounters with the current head to head between them standing at two wins apiece. Kolkata beat Mumbai 3-0 in the first match of Hero ISL 2014, while Mumbai registered a 2-1 win at home against ATK in the same season. Hero ISL 2015 saw Kolkata beat Mumbai 4-1 away and lose 3-2 at home.

Key Battles

Lucian Goian vs Iain Hume Lucian Goian has started both games for Mumbai City FC this season and will have to be on the top of his game if they are to neutralise ATK’s deadly attacking trident of Sameehg Doutie, Javi Lara and Iain Hume. The Romanian centre-back has made three interceptions, four blocks and eight clearances for Mumbai this year and will have to bring all his experience into play against Kolkata if the hosts are to keep their third successive clean sheet of the season. Iain Hume’s versatility in attack that sees him interchange positions seamlessly is likely to make him one of ATK’s biggest attacking threats on Tuesday. The Canadian striker has already scored once this season and will be looking to add to his tally with fond memories of his last visit to Mumbai still fresh in his mind. Hume scored his first professional hat-trick against Mumbai last year and will have to be marked well if Mumbai want to take something from the match. Matías Defederico vs Javi Lara Matias Defederico has been one of Mumbai’s most lively and exciting players in their opening two fixtures of the season. The Argentine midfielder’s ability to leave opposition defenders mesmerised with some neat footwork will be a cause for concern for opposition backlines as the season develops. He has already scored once for Mumbai this year and is starting to develop a good understanding with Diego Forlan. ATK’s defence cannot offer him too much space on the ball if they want to come away with a positive result on Tuesday. Javi Lara has been one of ATK’s most devastating players in attack this season. The technically gifted Spaniard has already scored one goal for Kolkata in Hero ISL 2016. A major threat from set-pieces, Mumbai will look to avoid giving away needless free-kicks in dangerous areas. The 30-year-old also has one successful take on this year and is likely to make his presence felt from wide areas as his seven crosses thus far suggests. Diego Forlan vs Arnab Mondal Uruguayan legend Diego Forlan couldn’t have hoped for a better start to Hero ISL 2016 after registering an assist and a goal in Mumbai’s first two matches of the season. Forlan’s involvement in the game will have to be minimised by ATK if the visitors want to take something from the game. His vision on the ball and playmaking credentials that allow him to make eye of the needle passes with unerring regularity can prove to be the difference maker. Arnab Mondal will be entrusted by head coach Jose Molina to be the leader in ATK’s defence. The Indian international has enjoyed a fine start to the season, registering two successful tackles, three interceptions, three blocks and 12 clearances so far. He is also strong in the air and has won each of the five aerial duels he has competed in this year. With the likes of Forlan and Defederico in the opposition attack, Tuesday’s encounter is set to be his biggest challenge yet.
