IPTL 2: Indian Aces reaches final despite going down to Singapore Slammers

Sania-with-Bopanna-in-IPTL-Singapore , December 19 : Despite going down to Singapore Slammers 21-27, defending champions Indian aces reached the finals of the International Premier Tennis League(IPTL) at the Singapore indoor stadium here tomorrow. The Aces ended atop the standings after winning eight of the eleven matches in this edition of the tournament with a win percentage of 54.1 while Slammers finished second winning seven out of 11 matches with a percentage of 52.2.

In today’s opening match, the Aces faltered from the start as Fabrice Santoro went down to Carlos Moya 2-6 in the men’s legend’s singles while Bernard Tomic lost to Stan Wawrinka 5-6 in the men’s singles contest.

The Slammers went on to extend their dominance to 18-9 as Svetlana Kuznetsova lost 2-6 to Belinda Bencic in the women’s singles.

Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza halted the Slammers from extending their lead as they clinched the mixed doubles contest 6-4 against Dustin Brown and Kristina Pliskova while Bopanna paired up with Ivan Dodic to beat Marcelo Melo and Nick Kyrcios 6-5 in the men’s doubles tie.

But the consolation win from Sania and Bopanna, failed to stop the Slammers as they ended the match on the losing side.
