Kolkata : Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly reckons India will be the firm favourites to win the ICC World T20 at home . India will host the T20 World Cup which will begin from March 8 to April 3.
Sourav feels India will definitely hold a slight edge playing at home , “India will definitely start as the favourites in the upcoming World T20. Indian players will have the added advantage of playing at home as they will have a better idea about the conditions .” He further added , “ T20 series win against Australia will definitely boost their confidence . Specially the present batting line up looks very strong .”
The former Indian captain have ruled out Australia’s chances of doing well in the tournament . The Aussies have so far failed to reach the last four in the previous editions . According to Sourav , spinners will play a very important role in the sub-continent . “Australia don’t have any world class spinners like Shane Warne now . It will be very difficult for someone like Cameron Boyce who do not have the experience of playing on Indian soil”.
The left hander also backed the selectors decision to rest Virat Kohli for the forthcoming T20 series against Sri Lanka at home . “The decision of resting Kohli is absolutely right. I don’t think a player of his caliber would have much problem . The break will do him a world of good as he will go into the tournament recharged .”
On being asked if Mahendra Singh Dhoni should relinquish the T20 and ODI captaincy after the T20 World Cup , he said one should leave it on him to decide . “Its entirely his decision . Let’s leave it on Dhoni to decide .”
