IND vs NZ 2017: India’s mammoth of a total proved too much for the kiwis

Internet Desk: India registered a scintillating victory over New Zealand in the first of the three T20 matches held at Delhi’s Firoz Shah Kotla ground.

Opting to field first after winning the toss, the Kiwis were hit hard as India went on to score a mammoth total of 202-3 after 20 overs. Both the openers Rohit Sharma and Shikar Dhawan scored 80 runs and powered India to the huge total. Rohit’s innings had 6 fours and 4 sixes while Dhawan’s 80 had 10 fours and 2 sixes.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya was dismissed for a duck but then it was skipper Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni who both remianed unbeaten on 26 and 7 respectively took India to the total.

Veteran pacer Ashish Nehra played his last International today as the medium pacer accounced his retirement. The Indian bowlers pouched on the Kiwis as the Black Caps fell down at 149-8.

After openers Munro and Guptill were dismissed early, Williamson and Latham tried to rebuilt theor innings by scoring 28 and 39 respectively. However with the middle order failing the Kiwis had to succumb to the huge total. Santner’s valliant 14 ball 27 went in vain as it was too late for his side.

The formidable bowling attack saw Axar Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal bagging 2 wickets apiece and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya scalping single wickets.
