IFA Shield: AIFF Academy beats Mohammedan Sporting Club to reach the semi-final

Kolkata: AIFF Academy thrashed Mohammedan Sporting Club U-19 team 4-0 in their own backyard to reach the semi-final of the 121st IFA Shield on Thursday. N. Joysana Singh drew the first blood in the second minute of the game for the visitors as he scored a stunner to open the account. In the second half of the game Naorem Roshan Singh doubled the lead for the visitors on the 49th minute of the game. The boys of AIFF U-19 team added more pressure to the home side and as a result Roshan scored his second and team’s third goal on the 55th minute of the game. D. Lalnuntluanga put the final nail on Mohammedan Sporting Club’s coffin when he scored his first and team’s fourth goal on the 61st minute of the game to seal the day for AIFF Academy.

After winning this encounter AIFF Academy have reached the semi-final from Group A. Naorem Roshan Singh was adjudged Man of the Match for scoring two brilliant goals against Mohammedan. Roshan Singh is from Manipur and he joined the AIFF Academy last year.

“I have joined the AIFF Academy last year. Our coach Sloyd Cinto have always told us to work hard and practice the game every day and that have helped us to do well as a team. I am very happy that we have beaten two Kolkata giants East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting Club back to back, but our main goal is to win the IFA Shield.”

On being asked about his football idol, the Manipuri boy replied,” I like Cristiano Ronaldo a lot and from India Sunil Chhetri is my idol.”
