Kolkata: Bengal captain Manoj Tiwary was always hopeful about getting picked in the IPL auction today. Manoj was on the verge of going unsold for a second year running, but thanks to Rising Pune Supergiants , who bought him at the last moment. After going unsold for two rounds, Tiwary eventually was roped in by Rising Pune Supergiants at his base price of Rs 50 lakhs.

“I did well across all formats this season. I also had a decent strike rate. So, I was hopeful about getting picked from the auction by any franchise. I am grateful to Mr Goenka for reposing faith on me and picking me for the Rising Pune Supergiants,” said Manoj to xtratime.in

On being asked what was going in his mind when he went unsold after second round, Manoj said, “I was constantly keeping an eye on the television and on twitter. Had it been a couple of years ago, I would have lost hope. But I am a lot matured now. I was feeling bad as we did well to win the National T20 championship. Now that I have been picked, I would not like to let go this opportunity.”

Rookie fast bowler from Bengal, Sayan Ghosh was picked by the Knight Riders at his base price of Rs 10 lakhs. Manoj did not hide his disappointment as he said, “It’s a professional sport. If I get an opportunity to play at Eden Gardens against KKR, the local sentiment will be with me.”

Sayan on the other hand still cannot believe his fortune. The talented fast bowler from Chakdah first got the news from his father.

He credited TA Sekhar for the turnaround. “TA Sekhar Sir sent me for trials at Delhi Daredevils camp. I got valuable tips to bowl yorkers and in death overs. Vision 20-20 also helped me shape my career,” said Sayan.

24 year old Sayan, who has modeled his action like Malinga wants to meet the Sri Lankan great in person during the IPL. He also wants to meet his idol Mitchell Johnson, who was roped in by Mumbai Indians. According to Sayan, “I want to take tips from Mitchell Johnson on how to increase the pace and stay aggressive. I had always admired him since I took fast bowling.”
