The Mariners had a mixed pre-season going into the I League. They emerged victorious in the Sikkim Governors Gold Cup while ending runners up to arch rivals East Bengal in Calcutta League. Bagan Coach Sanjoy Sen do not want to read too much into the pre-season results. “The Pre-season is all about the preparation for the season and not much about the results. If you look at our match against FC Pune City which we lost by 4-1 the result could have been a lot different as we created much more chances than the opposition. So I feel content with that performance and expect a great game tomorrow,” said Mohun Bagan coach. Minerva Punjab FC has a new look side this season. Wankhem Khogen Singh has replaced   as the Coach of the side. Talking about his sides chances in tomorrow’s match, Khogen Singh said, “There have been many changes since last year for Minerva Punjab. We have selectively picked up a pretty young side. Most of our players are in their early 20s which suggest we believe in our youth system.” Minerva signed 5 new foreigners this season while retaining the services of Lago who was on loan to Lonestar Kashmir last season. “Some of the foreign signing for this season are Toshiya who hails from Japan and plays in the defensive midfield position. Another great prospect is Kassim from Senegal who partners Toshiya in midfield”, said the Manipuri coach. Mohun Bagan practiced at the Guru Nanak Stadium in the evening under floodlights. The ground was a bit of concern last season but the Bagan gaffer looked happy after practice. “We did train at the main stadium. It was much better compared to the one we last played on. The ground looks good,” said Sen. The Mariners are dogged with injuries to key midfielders. Both Yuta Kinowaki and Diego Ferrera have not traveled to Ludhiana with the team. The Kolkata outfit will rely on the pair of Dicka and Kromah to score goals. Cjesterpaul Lyndoh along with Shilton , Reyniar and Sony Norde will form the midfield quartet. The defence will manned by Gurjinder, Kingshuk, Kingsley and Riki. Experienced Shilton Paul will be under the bars. Talking about Minerva Punjab side, Sanjoy Sen said, “The team is almost new. Last year we were able to beat Minerva Punjab and this season also we expect the same outcome. We came very late to Ludhiana yesterday due to Flight problem. As we are playing an away match so it would have been better than we had an extra session of practice but now we need to deal with what we have in hand.” The match will kick start at 5:30pm on Saturday. Both teams will observe a one-minute silence tomorrow in the memory of late former AIFF President Mr. Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi.
