Anilava Chatterjee,Tokyo: Star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu on Saturday said she was disappointed for not making it to the final of badminton women's singles at Tokyo Olympics. According to Sindhu every sportsperson work hard to win an Olympics gold. It was heartbreak for the fans as Sindhu lost her semi final match against Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying. The No 6 seed Sindhu lost in straight games to second seed Tai Tzu 18-21, 12-21 in 40 minutes.

“Definitely I wanted it (to win gold) because every sportsperson work hard for that. Only one can get it. I tried hard but it was just not my day,” said a visibly disappointed Sindhu while talking to the media persons in Tokyo.

Talking about her semi final clash against Tai Tzu Ying, Sindhu said, “It was never over for me after losing the first set. On previous occasions even though I lost the first I came back to win the second and third to win the match. I didn’t take it easy as I fought until the last point even though she was leading like five points, six points, I still fought back. You never know it can change all of a sudden but yeah I think she played well too.”

She added, “She has a very deceptive stroke and I was prepared for it. There was really good rallies in between. I was ready for her strokes, it was not too difficult. Today I was making a few more errors comparatively than before. Overall it was a good game what I felt. Unfortunately I was not on the winning side and I was sad about that.”

Tai Tzu was making Sindhu run all around the court much the same what the Indian did in her match against Yamaguchi yesterday.

“Well I think against Tai Tzu mostly there are going to be rallies and you can’t expect easy points. I didn’t feel at any time I was running because she has deceptive strokes. It was due to her anticipation it might seem like that. There were times she also made mistakes. Today she didn’t make too many unforced errors,” said Sindhu.

Sindhu will now face He Bingjiao in the bronze medal match on Sunday. Talking about her opponent in next match, the Rio Olympics silver medalist said, “Tomorrow’s opponent is not going to be easy. She beat Okuhara so I think it’s really going to be a very good match. I need to recover soon and come back stronger. It’s hard losing and then playing again.”

Lastly, on being asked how badly she wanted to win a medal in Tokyo, Sindhu said, “Well I have to as I don’t have a choice. It is sad but at the same time it is very important to get back stronger and recover well. I have another chance to get a medal. Missing the gold was a disappointment but I still have to give my best for the medal. Every day is a new day. I have to prepare for tomorrow.”
