Iain Hume of Atletico de Kolkata and Prabir Das of Atletico de Kolkata celebrate the equalising goalKolkata: Atletico de Kolkata and North East United FC shared the honors tonight at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium in Kolkata as the visitors conceded a late strike after leading the fixture for the majority of 90 minutes. Nelo Vingada’s men took an early lead in the 5th minute after an alert Nicolas Velez took advantage of an Atletico de Kolkata defensive lapse to give his side a much-needed breakthrough. The strike was – however – canceled by ATK’s Canadian forward, Iain Hume right in the dying hours of the encounter when it looked as if the Guwahati-based side would return to their den with all the three points in its pocket. The result – although a fair one – wouldn’t quite come in aid of either of the teams at this stage of the competition with every side breathing on each other’s necks in their quest to qualify for the business end of the tournament. However, ATK head coach, Jose Molina believes that the situation is still under his control with the inaugural champions scheduled to play a total of four more matches. “The tournament is still wide open. Each and every team is in a potential do-or-die position; be it the Delhi Dynamos (at the top) or the North East United (at the bottom). In the hindsight, though, almost every other team has three more matches to go whereas we are left with four more fixtures. So, I think that there is no need to hit the panic button yet,” Molina told the press. When asked about his thoughts on the potential magic figure to qualify for the playoffs, the Spaniard answered, “Honestly, I don’t know. All I can say is that I want my side to grab all three points every time we set our foot on the field. Further, when informed about Star’s 60-minute-mark statistics on the match possession (75-25 in favor of North East United), a shell-shocked Molina replied, “With all due respects, I think the calculation is nowhere near the true scenario. I feel the actual possession was 70-30 in our favor.” Reflecting on the important moments of the match, ATK head coach said, “The defensive lapse that we committed in the opening moments of the match was a great mistake on our behalf. I am absolutely not happy with the overall performance of my side. It wasn’t the best of matches that we had played. The only positive that we take away from the match was our fighting spirit right until the end.” “However – with all being said and done – I can assure you that my boys will go for all three points in our next match against Chennai,” Molina concluded.
