XtraTime Web Desk: The cricket world was stunned after Australian cricket team captain Steve Smith accepted that they tried to tamper the ball in the ongoing third Test of the four-match Test series against the Proteas in Cape Town. After this incident ICC has handed a one Test ban and fined 100% match fee to Aussie skipper Steve Smith, on the other hand opener Cameron Bancroft was fined by 75% of his match fees. Veteran Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh who saw many decisions went against him earlier in his career was not happy with ICC’s decision and was surprised that the young opener was not suspended, on the other the hand Smith got suspended for only one match.

Clearly unhappy with this decision, Harbhajan took to twitter and raised questions regarding ICC’s decision and mentioned that he and his five other teammates were suspended for excessive appealing in a 2001 Test against the Proteas.

Bhajji, who fought many battles against the Aussies, again mentioned his Monkeygate controversy with star Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds. This controversy nearly led the Indian team management to abandon the tour in 2008. At the end of the game match referee Mike Procter handed a three-match ban to Harbhajan for this incident.

After Saturday’s blunder Smith and Bancroft admitted to cheating in an explosive press conference but the former refused to step down as captain.

“I saw an opportunity to use some tape, get some granules from the rough patches on the wicket and try to change the ball condition,” Bancroft said.

“It didn’t work; the umpires didn’t change the ball. But once I was sighted on the screens and having done that, that resulted in me shoving it down my trousers,” he added.

“It was a pre-planned move concocted by the Australian leadership group over lunch”, Smith admitted.

“I’m not proud of what’s happened. It’s not within the spirit of the game,” Smith said.

“My integrity, the team’s integrity, the leadership group’s integrity has come into question and rightly so”, he added.
