Gianluca Zambrotta joins Delhi Dynamos as their new marquee manager

Internet Desk: Former Italian defender Gianluca Zanbrotta has signed for Indian Super League side Delhi Dynamos as the manager of the club for the upcoming season. The deal has been for four months from September to December.

The legendary defender who played for Juventus, FC Barcelona and AC Milan will replace Roberto Carlos at the helm of affairs. The Italian is expected to sign a two-year contract with the Delhi side.

Zambrotta is regarded as one of the best full-backs in the world of his generation who have plyed his trade in several big clubs. He started his career at Italian clun Calcio Como and later moved to AS Bari. But the major breakthrough in his career came when joined Italian giants Juventus in 1999. The same year he made his debut for the national team.

After the FIFA World 2006 Zambrotta moved to Spanish giants FC Barcelona where he spent 2 seasons before joining AC Milan. In his illustrous career, the defender has won several accolades which includes a World Cup, three Italian Serie A and several cup competitions.

Zambrotta joined Swiss club FC Chiasso in 2013 as an assistant manager and later that year took up the charges of manager. He served them as a manager until last season.

Delhi Dynamos will be delighted with this latest addition to the squad. The Indian side is yet to win an Indian Super League title even though they can boast of an extremely competent squad.

The Dynamos are known for creating buzz in the transfer market. In their debut season, former Italian striker and star player Alessandro Del Piero had joined them as a marquee player. The second saw Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos joining them as their player manager.

Last season during a Premier League match between West Bromwich Albion and Manchester City, Delhi’s name appeared on the digital board at the Hawthorns stadium as they have a tie-up with the West Brom.

He will be travelling to India, and together with him he will also bring Simone Barone as his assistant coach. At this time the agreement is for four months, but it is likely that Zambrotta-Baron duo will return for 2017.
