The 62 year old former cricketer turned coach was nominated along with Sambaran Banerjee, Dipankar Sarkar and Barun Burman. But the Mohun Bagan coach was preferred over the others , considering his seniority. According to Sourav Ganguly, the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal, “Keeping in mind his seniority and his contribution to Bengal cricket, the Trustee Board members has decided to bestow the award on him.” “This is perhaps the second most memorable incident in my life. The first was off-course the Ranji Trophy win”, said Palash to xtratime.in It has been a great journey for Palash Nandy. Elder of the Nandy brothers (younger brother Pranab also a cricketer) , Palash is respected for his gentleman attitude. He made his first class debut in 1969-70 and scored 3208 runs in 51 first class matches. His highest score in first class cricket was 205 runs. His innings of 97 runs against a touring England side in 1981-82 is widely spoken about even today. Like a common Bengali, Palash’s first love was football. “Football was my first passion and never expected to win such an honour in my life. I would like to give credit my childhood coach Pulak Biswas and my mother for getting me into cricket. It has been a great journey, playing alongside the likes of  legends like Shyam Sunder Mitra, Dilip Doshi, Pankaj Roy and others,”  says Palash.
