Foreigners earn East Bengal a crucial away victory against Chennai City FC

Kolkata: City giant East Bengal registered a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Chennai City FC at Coimbatore in the Hero I-League 2017-18 today. It was their first away game from Kolkata and Red & Gold Brigade’s head coach Khalid Jamil would be very happy after his side has won back to back three matches. With this victory, they have reached to 10 points and outran their arch-rivals to Mohun Bagan to reach the second spot of the table.

East Bengal’s last match savior Willis Deon Plaza missed an easy chance in the very first minute of the game. After that Chennai City FC’s goal-keeper saved a brilliant shot of the Red & Gold Brigade’s star Syrian mid-fielder Mahmoud Al Amna’s shot. Japanese bomber Katsumi Yusa broke the deadlock at the 27th minute of the game to give his side an 1-0 lead. After receiving a pass from Plaza, Amna took a shot at the goal but Chennai City FC’s goalie saved his shot. Katsumi took the shot at the return ball to score the opener. Charles doubled the the lead for his side in the 32nd minute of the game. Just ahead of the end of the first half Chennai’s J Suraj scored a goal to reduce the gap.

The match ended at 2-1 at the end in favor of the visitors.
