Internet Desk: In a rare instance as many as three Indians feature in the Top 10 goals of the AFC Cup 2016. Bengaluru FC Captain Sunil Chhetri and his teammate Eugeneson Lyngdoh along with Mohun Bagan midfielder Bikramjit Singh’s name feature in the Top 10 goals list released recently by Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
The other goals that feature in the list were scored by Azamuddin Akil (Johor Darul Ta’zim), Jordan Webb (Tampines Rovers), Hassan Chaito (Al Ahed), Juan Lucero (Johor Darul Ta’zim), Yasir Hanapi (Tampines Rovers), Jordi Torres Paramo (Kitchee SC) and Luiz Carlos (Ceres La Salle FC)
Sunil Chhetri played an inspirational role in the semi-final against Johor Darul Ta’zim. The Bengaluru FC Captain scored a brace in his side’s 3-1 thumping over the Malaysian side. Chhetri gave his side the lead of a pile driver from 30 yards that kept Johor goalkeeper Izham Tarmizi stranded.
Sunil’s teammate in Bengaluru FC, Eugeneson Lyngdoh scored an all important goal against Johor Darul Ta’zim in the 1st Leg of AFC Cup semi final at Tan Sri Dato Hazi Hassan Yunos Stadium in Malaysia. His equalizer in the 56th minute gave the Blues much needed boost ahead of its 2nd Leg tie against the same opponents. His stunning left footed shot from 30 yards beat the outstretched hands of Johor goalkeeper.
Bikramjit Singh scored a blinder for Mohun Bagan with his right footer from almost 35 yards beating the stretched hands of Tampines Rovers goalkeeper. The Mohun Bagan defensive medio scored the equalizer for the Federation Cup champions in the 72nd minute at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium on May 24. But the Mariners bowed out of the tournament after conceding a goal in the 117th minute of the match.
