The disastrous performance of Manchester United at The Stamford Bridge against Antonio Conte’s Chelsea has suddenly put the credibility of Jose Mourinho under question marks. After so much success in his illustrious managerial career, I can feel how much it is pricking the Portuguese tactician.

As a coach, me too have seen a lot of ups and downs in my life. Even if I go back to my first season in Mohun Bagan back in 2014/2015, I had to deal with almost the similar circumstances. In the Federation Cup in Goa, our team Mohun Bagan got thumped by a miserable 1-4 margin on the hands of Salgaocar. Mohun Bagan too got an embarrassing exit after a disappointing show in that tournament. But we fought back by showing a lot of character to clinch our first ever I-League title in that same season. Manchester United had good business in the transfer market and Mourinho needs time to transform his new team in his trademark genre. These early stumbles might lead Manchester United from strength to strengths.

I was going through the autobiography of former Polish goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek and his experience in such conditions is very well depicted there. He has seen and gone through these circumstances in the past as well and in the end, had come out with flying colours.

This is for all the Manchester United fans all over the world. Don’t get disheartened. We are just at the beginning of English Premier League this season and still a long way to go. I have full faith on Jose Mourinho not just by his name but what he has done with FC Porto, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Chelsea in the past. Definitely we did not expect the performances of Manchester United against City, Liverpool and Chelsea. But that is football, this is the beauty of this exceptional game.
