Kalyani : Moment of brilliance from Ivory Coast forward Dodos creates magic as Mohammedan Sporting beats star-studded Mohun Bagan at Kalyani today to clinch the runners-up spot of the Calcutta Football League. Both the teams played the game with some attacking flair but it is Mohammedan Sporting who had more purpose and hunger to steal the show. The illusive moment came in the 61st minute as substitute Dodos scored a sensational long range goal to hand an upset to the Mohun Bagan fans. Dodos, who came on as a substitute for French forward Alexandre, got the ball, dribbled past two defenders and triggered a missile to make it almost impossible for the Mohun Bagan goalkeeper to save.
Mohun Bagan too came close to equalize in the 79th minute as Saran Singh’s sublime free kick came off the cross bar. Dodos too got a great opportunity to double the lead but his powerful shot went just off-target.
The second half moreover was dominated by the Black Panthers as the the “super sub” Dodos made all the difference.
The Mohammedan Coach Mridul Banerjee started with the new French forward Alexandre who could give Mohammedan the opening goal as soon as in the first minute of the game, but Arnab Das Sharma made a stupendous save. Darryl Duffy too on the opposite end got a few glorious opportunities but the Irish failed to deliver when his team needed the most.
Mohammedan Coach must thank their star defender Toure as well, as he stood like a rock on the defence to defend their lead.
The deplorable show by the Mariners would certainly put the officials under the scanner as the Kolkata giants failed to manage even the runners up spot after this defeat.
