Kolkata: Mohun Bagan coach Sanjoy Sen has made his ambitions clear on Thursday. The gaffer announced that he will be targeting to win both the I League and AFC Cup. And for that to happen, the Bagan coach would like to follow the Bengaluru FC model.

I League winners Bengaluru FC did the nation proud by reaching the AFC Cup final. The Blues lost the final against Air Force club of Iraq by a solitary goal. But the performances by Sunil Chhetri and his team did not go unnoticed as they received accolades from all spheres.

Mohun Bagan, who ended up runners in the I League did not take the AFC Cup seriously and as such was eliminated from the Pre-Quarter final stages. The Mariners lost to Tampines Rovers by 1-2 at Guwahati.

But this season things are going to be different, as hinted by the Mohun Bagan coach. According to Sanjoy Sen, “We have learnt from Bengaluru FC that if proper planning is done by the management then doing well in AFC Cup is not a distant dream.”

Last season Mohun Bagan was runners up of I-League and due to dilemma whether to retain the same team for the AFC Cup. Most of the Bagan players had their contract till Federation Cup in May as a result they had to be released ahead of AFC Cup.  Sanjoy Sen has made it clear that he wants to seat with the players and officials very soon. “I want to seat with all the players after 3rd January when all the players will be together and will plan for the AFC Cup games which is scheduled in between the I-League games this season.”
