Five Indian athletes who shone in Rio Olympics 2016

Internet Desk: After the completion of the 31st Olympics question has been raised about the gain of India from the world’s greatest show. Some are depicting this Olympic as the rise of women power. Numeric shows that India has gained two Medals. This is definitely a fall from the previous Olympics where India got total six Medals.

However, apart from the two statistical numbers India gained more. This year the highest ever contingent went to the Olympics. Expectation was high following that joining. Some of them also reached upto the Medal podium, but missed by a whisker.

Without any confusion the most successful sports person of this Olympic is shuttler P V Sindhu. She created history by winning the first Olymmpic Silver Medal as a woman, which is known to all. The latent fact is that she lost only the final of the Olympics to lose the Gold Medal. More interestingly Sindhu won four matches among the five winning matches, by straight sets.

She played the most important match apart from the final one was her quarterfinal match. In that match she played against the world no.2 Wang Yihan, who was also the defending Silver Medalist. In that match she won by 22-10 21-19, which gave her the mental strength to reach the final match.

The opponent of Sindhu in the final match Carolina Marin did not lose a single set in this Olympics. Sindhu was the first to break her that record to win over her in the second set. However, Sindhu lost the match.

Sakshi Malik

Wrestler Sakshi Malik won the Bronze Medal as a dark horse. In fact she opened the Medal hunt of India in this Olympics. Her run for the Medal was a tense one.

She won her qualification and round of 16 easily by 3-1. But she could not manage the quarterfinal and lose by 1-3. From there tension raised and fate of Sakshi hung over Koblova of Russia, whom she lost in the quarterfinal. As Koblova reached the final Sakshi got the chance to play the repechage.

Getting a chance Sakshi did not dishearten the countrymen. She won two consecutive matches- the repechage 2 and the Bronze Medal match. It was a splendid match in the meal match where she defeated Aisuluu Tynybekova of Kyrgyztan. Despite trailing 0–5 at one stage, in the repechage medal playoff, she became India’s first female wrestler to win the match by 8-5.

Dipa Karmakar

Another female discovery of this Olympic is Dipa Karmakar who went this Olympics as the first woman gymnast to reach the Olympics. In her first arrival in the Olympics she was about to reach the expectation of Indian citizens. She missed the Bronze Medal by only 0.15points.

She reached the final of artistic gymnastic as the eighth competitor. Within the time she got to improve at Rio she improved herself to finish fourth among eight gymnasts. She got 15.066points in the final while her point in qualification was 14.850.

Abhinav Bindra

The most successful Olympian of India dishearten the country this time. Abhinav Bindra this time finished fourth in the final of 10m Air Rifle. It was an unfortunate finish for the Olympic Gold Medalist in the final.

In the qualification round Bindra showed consistency to rise from a very lower ranking. He came seventh in the qualification round. But at the last stage of the final his performance fell to earn only 20.8 20.2 20.1 consecutive points. This ended his run for the second Olympic Medal. After the lose he also bid good bye to his Olympic venture.

Lalita Babar

India has seen a rise of a woman athlete this time. Prior to the Olympics P T Usha betted for Lalita Babar who competed for the steeplechase event. However, she was under the shadow of several other athletes.

In the qualification round Lalita made a timing of 9m 19.76s, which was her carrier best performance. But in the final she could not uplift even carry on her best effort. She fell at the tenth spot in the final. However, being the first Indian to qualify for the final of steeplechase event made her remarkable. She promised of doing better in the next Olympics.
