Kolkata: One of the most low-profile and underrated cricket of Bengal Sanjib Sanyal has been made the coach of the Railways who would be playing a major portion in the important Ranji Trophy this season. Sanyal who has played 47 First class matches, 47 list matches and 23 T20s for Bengal and Railways was never in the limelight but has always guided his side as a dependable all rounder. Occasionally referred to as “Kaka” in the Maidan grounds, Sanyal is currently travelling to Visakhapatnam for the Railway trials. He was offered the prestigious offers just two days back. Sanjib was the vice captain of the Railways side on both occasions when Railways won the Ranji Trophy in 2001-02 and 2004-05.

Sanjib left first class cricket a couple of seasons back, left Bengal cricket two seasons back and was continuing his game for club cricket for Mohun Bagan. However with the new job he what he does with the team is for us to look out.

“The new job is highly challenging. Performing at the end of the day will be the main thing. Here there will be players from all over the nation with different sentiments and mentality. So the challenge of managing such a team is definitely greater. We will work on the adjustment among all the players” said Sanjib

“Arindam Ghosh and I are good friends and we have a good understanding for the last couple of years. If he is the captain of the team, it will be a huge boost for the team” he added after it was decided that Arindam was to be declared as the captain of the team.

Railways will miss Karn Sharma after he moved back to his home side Vidharba.“Definitely the missing Karn Sharma will be a huge loss, however we will get replacements for him”
